The show is coming back after backlash from comments Mr. Kimmel made on air last week. But not everyone will be able to view the episode live.

Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show, “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” will be back on the air Tuesday night for the first time since ABC and Disney pulled the program last week. The show’s hiatus came after Mr. Kimmel made comments on air about the man accused of fatally shooting Charlie Kirk, the right-wing activist, that resulted in harsh criticism from the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission.

But even though Mr. Kimmel is back, about a quarter of the ABC stations in the United States won’t air it.

Nexstar, a major owner of local ABC stations, said on Tuesday that it would pre-empt the show, meaning it would replace “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” with other programming. Sinclair, another owner of local affiliates, said the same.

Here’s what to know about where you can (and can’t) watch Mr. Kimmel’s return to the screen.

It doesn’t appear so. On Tuesday morning, Nexstar said that it would replace the comedy show with news programming, pending further “discussions with ABC.” Sinclair said the same on Monday evening, not long after Disney announced that the show would return.

Disney owns and operates the local affiliates in some of the country’s largest markets, including in the New York, Los Angeles and Chicago areas, which will air the episode. Other local television owners, including Hearst and Gray Media, will also air “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”

Yes, on certain platforms and most likely in certain regions. Tuesday’s episode will be available to stream on DirectTV, Fubo, Hulu Live and YouTube TV. But if Nexstar or Sinclair are your local providers, the alternative broadcast could still be what pops up onscreen.

The episode will also be available on Wednesday on Hulu as well as on Disney+. And the show has a YouTube channel where clips, including Mr. Kimmel’s opening monologue, are often posted after an episode airs.
