At least seven people were in critical condition, the Los Angeles Fire Department said early Saturday, after it appeared a driver lost consciousness and ran into a crowd.

At least 30 people were injured in Los Angeles after a vehicle drove into a crowd, the Los Angeles Fire Department said early Saturday.
At least seven people were in critical condition, and six others were in serious condition, the department said. The details of the situation were still unclear early Saturday morning, but the department said that the incident had happened on Santa Monica Boulevard in the East Hollywood area.
A spokesman for the department, Adam VanGerpen, said that firefighters were called out about 2 a.m. to what was described as a traffic accident.
“Somebody had lost consciousness inside the vehicle, drove into a taco cart, and then ultimately ran into a large number of people who were outside a club in East Hollywood,” he told reporters at the scene. There were reports of a gunshot wound in one patient, Captain VanGerpen said, and patients were being treated and transported to surrounding hospitals. “Right now the situation is static,” he said.

The crowd was hit near a performance venue, the Vermont Hollywood, where a show had been scheduled to end at 2 a.m. Video and photos circulating online appeared to show a silver car on a sidewalk outside the venue and several people lying on the ground.
More than 124 fire personnel responded to the scene, the fire department said in an alert.
