At least two people were being treated for injuries at a hospital in York, Pa., after reports of a shooting involving police officers in a rural community in a southern part of the state.
The two injured people were in serious condition at WellSpan York Hospital, according to a spokeswoman, Maggi Barton. It was not clear if they were police officers.
But Gov. Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania posted on social media that he was headed to the community where the shooting had occurred, and several other public officials expressed concern for police officers involved in the shooting.
Several law enforcement and emergency agencies in York County did not immediately provide more details.
The school district in Spring Grove, Pa., had told its schools to shelter in place because of an officer-involved shooting on Wednesday afternoon, though it later lifted the order and said schools had not been affected.
The governor posted on X that he was heading to the scene in North Codorus Township and had been “briefed on the situation involving law enforcement.” He asked residents to heed directions from the Pennsylvania State Police.
The state’s lieutenant governor, Austin Davis, posted, “Please send prayers to the officers and those involved in the shooting in York County.”
The reported site of the shooting is on a rural road about 2.5 miles outside of Spring Grove, a town of about 2,500 people halfway between York and Hanover, whose major industry is a large paper plant.
