A crane fell on a passenger train in Thailand on Wednesday, killing at least 22 people, the police said.

The express train was traveling with 195 passengers in Nakhon Ratchasima province, northeast of Bangkok, when the crane fell on it, the State Railway of Thailand said on social media.

At least 22 people were killed and 80 others were injured, said Col. Thatchapon Chinnawongand, the chief of the police station in Sikhio, the district where the incident happened. He said the crane fell from a height of around 65 feet.

The cause is under investigation, the authorities said.

Images posted by the State Railway on social media showed emergency workers searching mangled train cars, and a large structure under construction above the track.

This is a developing story.
